Punchkin Repertory Theatre Presents: "Billboard" By Michael Vukadinovich

[may 11, 12, 17, 18, & 19 @ 8pm, and May 13 @ 2pm]

Andy gets paid a great deal to tattoo a corporate logo on his forehead. The decision has both tragic and comic consequences as he comes to learn that the logo is more than just ink on his skin. But Katelyn, his artist girlfriend, sees a very unique artistic opportunity. His body as an example of the extent to which consumerism has permeated our daily lives. Billboard is about the battle between commercialism, fame, art and love.

Pretty Bee and Other Translations
Choreography and Light by Heloise Gold and Natalie George
with Elaine Dove and Julie Nathanielsz

[May 24th-26th @ 8pm. May 27th @ 2pm.]

Tickets: brownpapertickets.com/event/241861

Pretty Bee and Other Translations is a multi-layered performance using movement, vocals, shadow and light. It is an experiment in creating new relationships in collaboration as well as in breaking the traditional roles of technician, designer, and performer. Two duets are performed back-to-back, each a translation of the other. The choreography plays with revealing a journey through ever changing states of being. Can we sing opera as if we are in the shower alone and then fully embody the presence of a lizard? Can we pare down to an essential simplicity, reveal/perform the moment fully, and somehow trigger the unbounded reflections of the imagination? The piece plays with the aesthetics of change and attempts to share what often goes invisible.

Heloise Gold
Heloise is a performing/artist, dancer, T’ai Chi instructor and co-director of Art From The Streets (a project for homeless artists.) Her career traverses numerous paths beginning with childhood appearances with the Bolshoi Ballet (1962) to performing in Robert Wilson’s legendary 12 hour opera The Life And Times Of Joseph Stalin (1973); to participating in many experimental happenings in NYC in the 1970’s; to touring with The Deborah Hay Dance Company (1980’s); to being a key player in the inventive work being spawned in Austin in
the 1980’s and 90’s; to creating numerous original works spanning 25 years. She currently collaborates with performers in Austin, New York and Europe. . Most recently she danced in a tribute concert for new music pioneer Pauline Oliveros at Columbia University; presented her work in the Fusebox festival in 2009 and 2010 and presented her work at The Majlis Arts festival in Toronto in 2011. Additionally she has been performing in Julie Natahanielsz’ Meeting Point works in Austin.

Merlin Works Improv Classes

[Tuesdays , wednesdays, & saturdays- ongoing]

Founded at the Salvage Vanguard Theater in 2008 by longtime Austin Improviser Shana Merlin, The Merlin Works Institute for Improvisation teaches improv comedy classes in shortform (think: Whose Line Is It Anyways?) and narrative longform improv (think: Curb Your Enthusiasm.) We provide a relaxed and safe environment for people to remember how to play, take risks, connect with others, be more creative and have more fun. Our students are having so much fun, in fact, that they are surprised to find out how much their improv training helps them in performance, presentations, interviews, writing, professional life, and personal relationships.

Registration is now open for the next session of classes with the Merlin Works Institute of Improvisation! Improv training can help people in performance, presentations, interviews, writing, professional life and personal relationships.
